HIVE Foundation has adapted a slum area called Bharathi nagar in Tamil Nadu, India. On November 2016, HIVE collected field data to understand and analyze the needs and the demands of this vulnerable community; furthermore interventions were strategically planned to serve this community. This slum is known for its high prevalence of illiteracy rate, low socio-economic status, poor infrastructure and poor quality of life. On January 2017, HIVE founded a community welfare center at Bharathi nagar.
Educational Services rendered to Women
- Free trainings on Occupational skills: Tailoring, Handcrafts
- Workshops on lifestyle enhancement
- Education on finance management/ parenting techniques/ problem-solving skills/ home-making skills
- Creating Self-help groups to enhance emotional sustainability and financial stability
- Providing monthly food provisions to poverty-stricken families
- Promoting meditation and self-care
- Providing psychotherapeutic counseling to women and adolescent fighting depression and other mental ailments.
Apart from this slum area, HIVE carters’ similar services to different downtrodden communities. Several educational awareness programs are being conducted in schools, colleges, slum groups, fisherman community, drug/ substance abusers. Evidence based approaches are used and volunteering professionals are involved in providing quality enriched workshops and sessions. Several educational materials (books, notebooks, stationery, awareness enhancing materials, brochures, pamphlets etc) are being distributed free of cost state-wide. Our Follow up reviews has shown significant increase in knowledge of our vulnerable beneficiaries. As Benjamin Franklin once said, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest”. We believe that, this aggregate knowledge will in turn aid in making this world a better place for our future generation.
